Real Wedding: Aaron & Rachel

Aaron & Rachel's wedding was full of laughter, super chill and fun - exactly the way they dreamed it would be! They really were one of the sweetest couples we'd ever met, and they were such a joy to work with!

How did you two meet?

R: I’m from Singapore and Aaron’s originally from Brisbane, Australia.

I moved to Brisbane to study uni and we met at a local church where Aaron grew up in.

One day, Aaron sent me a FB message… 2 weeks later (probably an eternity to Aaron) I finally replied (hahaha) and that’s how we started :)

What drew you to one another?

R: I’m not gonna lie… it was his big brown sparkly eyes and dimples (initially)!!!!!!! He was the only Australian born chinese guy in our group so I couldn’t help but notice him hehe. As we got to know each other more, it was his maturity and humour.

A: For me, it was her loud and extroverted personality which really was awesome. It was also good to see an overseas student integrate into the aussie culture so well and openly.

How did he propose?

R: At Garden’s by the Bay!

What was supposed to be a weekend away at MBS with our friends, became our proposal! He was so sneaky… I did not expect it at all, it was very well planned by Aaron and our best friend. I walked all the way in the rain with my heels and he got down on one knee and popped the question. Nothing fancy really - no speech, no tears, just lots of laughter and fun! (also the ring was TWO sizes too small).

How did you plan your wedding?

R: We did it in 4 months! We knew we wanted to get married ASAP so we got down to planning it straight after we got engaged. Singaporebrides had many templates we could work with so that helped with the logistics/ timeline of the actual event.

We first got down to choosing our wedding bands as we wanted to design them ourselves. Next, we had to decide on wedding vendors and Instagram was such a HUGE help in helping us to see their previous works so that we can get an idea of their design/ style.

Both Aaron and I are pretty chill and easy going people, we aren’t very artsy fartsy but we know what we want when we see it. It was very important that we vibed well with our vendors because we wanted this planning process to be as painless as possible. And all of our amazing wedding vendors were so helpful! I do actually miss planning the wedding :P

What was your wedding theme and how did you decide on it?

Pinterest was our #1 inspiration! Our wedding venue was already so amazing that we didn’t need much deco. We decided to go with pastel green/ nude/ cream colours because we wanted the wedding to be chill and casual :)

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

R: It’s so hard to choose the most memorable moment… Just to name a few: walking down the aisle with my dad and realising he was SO SO happy (grinning from ear to ear), the groomsmen (or dogs) dancing down the aisle and seeing Aaron cry during his speech.

A: Overall it was just a really awesome and chill day. My groomsmen were only practising their walk-in the night before and we didn’t even have a rehearsal for the entire wedding ceremony. It was a good celebration and one of the best times of our lives.

What do you love most about your partner?

R: His ability to make me laugh even when I am so angry or annoyed (at him or others). He always reminds me that it is important to take care of myself first so that I am better able to serve others.

A: What I love about her the most is her initiative to always lend a hand. Whether that be for me or other friends and family. It is the behind the scenes things that go unnoticed and she doesn’t ever expect anything in return.

What made you choose your wedding venue?

We didn’t want a hotel banquet as we knew we wanted our wedding to be different. Our venue had to be somewhere indoors with good air con (cause Singapore is just too hot) and a place that reminded us of Australia. During our site visit to The Ahava, we knew instantly that it was our dream venue!!!!! It was so rustic and grand, we didn’t need to do much deco and it would already look amazing. It was also a perfect location to hold our solemnization + lunch wedding reception and would be able to accommodate more guests should the restrictions have been lifted then.

Thank you Aaron & Rachel for allowing us to be a part of your once-in-a-lifetime event! We had so much fun, laughing and crying alongside you!
